🌾 WHAT IS FUSHIMI INARI?

Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of the most famous Shinto shrines in Kyoto.

It is the head shrine of Inari shrines in Japan, which are dedicated to Inari Okami.

Inari is traditionally associated with:

🌾 Rice & agriculture

💰 Business prosperity

🏠 Family safety

🙏 Fulfillment of wishes

The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermillion torii gates.

These gates are called Senbon Torii, meaning “Thousands of Torii Gates.”

📜 A LITTLE HISTORY

According to tradition, Fushimi Inari was founded in 711.

Inari Okami was enshrined on Mount Inari, and the mountain itself became an important place of worship.

For more than 1,300 years, people have visited this sacred mountain to pray for prosperity, good harvests and the well-being of their families.

The shrine has been deeply connected with the people of Kyoto and with Inari worship throughout Japan.

🦊 WHY ARE THERE FOXES?

You will see many fox statues around the shrine.

Foxes are traditionally considered the messengers of Inari Okami.

They are often shown holding objects such as:

🌾 Rice ears

🔑 Keys

📜 Scrolls

💎 Jewels

Look closely at the fox statues as you walk around!

⛩️ THE FAMOUS TORII GATES

The thousands of torii gates are one of the most famous sights in Kyoto.

Many of the gates were donated by individuals and businesses as an expression of gratitude or prayer.

The torii gates continue up Mount Inari.

👟 GOOD TO KNOW

Walking through the torii gates and exploring the mountain can take several hours.

You do not need to climb the entire mountain to enjoy the famous Senbon Torii.

Choose how far you would like to walk according to your time and energy.

🙏 PLEASE REMEMBER
